Our favourite women’s casuals and how to wear them

Dressing up is fun, but sometimes, you just want (or need) to keep it casual. That’s why we’ve created the ultimate guide to casual dressing for women, offering timeless outfit ideas with items of clothing you probably already have in your wardrobe!

Just because the dress code is ‘casual’ doesn’t mean you can’t look chic and put-together. There are still plenty of ways to show off your style while maintaining a laid-back, effortless vibe.

How to dress casually
The truth is that there are many ways to dress ‘casually’. While certain outfits such as jeans or a basic t-shirt may look fine, you may be surprised to find that you can dress up almost anything, even skirts and dresses, in a casual way.

Read on for our favourite ways to wear casual outfits for almost any occasion.

Casual outfits with jeans

When I think of ‘casual wear’, jeans are the first thing that comes to mind. They are the ultimate base for countless casual looks and the styling possibilities are truly endless.

For a casual-chic combination, try tucking a simple tank top into high-waisted jeans and pairing it with a long cardigan jumper in a similar colour to the tank top. (Here, I chose a neutral colour, but any colourway will do).

A shorter cardigan will also work, but a longline cardigan feels elevated and is particularly comfortable because you can really wrap yourself in it.

Flat mules are a great casual shoe choice as they look shiny but are super easy to slip on and off. The shoes match the tone of this outfit and have a lovely gold chain link detail.

As this is a casual outfit, I would recommend keeping jewellery to a minimum; this gold ball layering necklace adds just the right amount of shine without going overboard.

A casual outfit with a t-shirt

Like jeans, t-shirts are the go-to outfit when styling casual wear.

Although the ‘jeans and t-shirt’ is one of the most casual and classic combinations, you can still mix up your casual vibe with another option, such as cargo trousers.

Cargo trousers and utility trousers are a popular trend this season and look best when worn with a t-shirt.

You can opt for a cropped t-shirt (pictured above) or an oversized, graphic t-shirt – both options will give you a cool, laid-back look.

Complete the look with some high-top sneakers for a cool vibe.

Casual wear with a skirt

Yes, dresses can be casual too!

The key to making your dress look casual is to choose flat shoes. Heels can dress up a skirt, while trainers, flat sandals or boots can keep it casual.

Try pairing lace-up combat boots with a little plaid skirt and an oversized jumper for a casual skirt.

This ribbed knit jumper features dropped shoulders, adding to its oversized look and helping to balance out a short, fitted skirt.

Casual wear with dresses

The secret to making a dress look casual? A denim jacket.

Wear a denim jacket over almost any type of dress and it will instantly look less ‘formal’ and more casual. An oversized denim jacket will give you extra points.

Shoes also play a big part in keeping dresses casual. Like dresses, dresses will look more laid back when worn with flats or low heels. Ankle boots with a short heel are a great option, like these western style shoes (1.5 inch heel), which are popular this season.

I love this white ruffled mini dress, but you can recreate the look with any other dress including printed dresses, midis and maxi dresses.
