A TikToker cured her acne with these 4 steps

Acne is a widespread skin problem that many people around the world have to deal with. Unfortunately, for some of us, it can chase us throughout our teens to our twenties and beyond.

Even more infuriating is the fact that there is no one solution to all the problems either. However, one TikToker who has had enough of dealing with her cystic acne shares the procedure that has worked for her and packed her spots.

In a two-part skincare confession, 23-year-old Boston make-up artist Mikayla Nogueira (AKA @mikaylanogueira) explained that she developed acne at the age of 21 and that she “didn’t know it was coming and I didn’t expect it …… My confidence took a big hit. My confidence took a big hit, [and] it made me severely depressed.”

The MUA insists she’s not a dermatologist, “but that experience made me very passionate about skin care because I was willing to do anything to get rid of that acne – and I did.”

“So, yes, I’m going to share my current routine, which makes me feel a peak of confidence and makes my skin look like this, acne-free. I’ve basically gotten rid of my acne scars and at this point in time I have very few skin issues,” Nogueira explains in the clip.

While she warns that those who may be interested in her routine should be aware that what works for her skin may not work for others, and that consistency is key, she goes on to share that these are “the four products [I] use every day, and this is my nighttime routine.”

First cleanse
“I use this because I wear makeup,” Nogueira says as she pulls out a banana-yellow bottle of cleansing oil.” It’s DHC Deep Cleansing Oil ($47.19 on the YesStyle website), it’s really just an oil and it does a great job of removing my make-up.” Nogueira raves about this make-up remover oil; “I’ve been using it for a long time. I’m a no-die kind of person …… But if you don’t wear makeup, you don’t necessarily need this step.”

“[SheaMoisture African Black Soap ($7.68 at iHerb)] is what I use to wash my face,” Nogueira explains, “I get some warm water in the sink, lather up the soap, and wash my face with that.” This MUA is quick to insist that she “doesn’t use any other face wash either,” so you know this budget-friendly option is a good thing.” I haven’t had any blemishes since I started using this cleanser.”

Chemical exfoliators
Now, technically speaking, Nogueira uses Resurface+ AHA/BHA niacinamide exfoliating pads in her routine, “I like this because it has AHA and BHA …… It helps to get rid of acne scars, which mostly gets rid of my acne scars, but also helps to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads.” But unfortunately, these wipeable pads are not common in this country, so let’s take a look at this knock-off. SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner ($35, Adore Beauty). An internet favourite in its own right, this blend of hydroxy acids (AHA, BHA and PHA to be precise) and niacinamide is a toner that breezes away acne scars and minimises the chances of future breakouts.

Skin moisturiser
If you haven’t heard of Selfless by Hyram, the cult brand is the brainchild of TikTok skin guru Hyram and THE INKEY LIST. “THE INKEY LIST Selfless by Hyram Niacinamide and Maracuja Daily Barrier Support Moisturiser ($42 at Sephora)” says Nogueira, “[are] very good.” This is the lightest moisturizer I’ve ever used …… It’s very hydrating, but I like it because I don’t like very thick creams.” This MUA added that she is averse to thicker formulas as they have given her acne in the past.
