Summer in Australia is often synonymous with ‘party season’. Warmer temperatures, longer days and the generally sunny mindset of those around us are the perfect recipe for feeling like we have three months of semi-rest. As a result, we indulge in our cocktails and wine more often, socialise more frequently and stay up later and eat more fried food than we normally would. While all of this is a definite good time, sometimes our skin doesn’t agree. A once smooth, even and bright complexion suddenly becomes dull, lacklustre and – just like you – a little tired.
So if you don’t like what staying up late and unhealthy food can do to your skin, here are five ways to fix the problem.
Find a brightening mask
Face masks have a great reputation for helping to add nourishment and moisture, which is always a good thing when you’re dealing with tired skin. However, to get double the benefits, use a mask that deeply hydrates and has the right ingredients to boost brightness. Try Sand & Sky Australian Emu Apple Super Bounce Mask. The kakadu plum in it contains vitamin C, so it will work to tackle hyperpigmentation and leave your skin glowing. Use it once or twice a week and you’ll be as good as gold.
Boost hydration with sheet masks
Fact: The more hydrated your skin is, the more radiant it will look. So, increase your water intake and indulge in regular mask sessions – their sole purpose in life is to deal with dehydrated skin, so make the most of it. You can use it every night if you wish, but we recommend using it in the morning so you’ll look radiant all day (rather than wasting it while you sleep). The Olay Skinfusion Camellia Nourishing Mask provides 8 hours of hydration, so you know your skin will feel soft and juicy all day long.
Get rid of those dead skin cells
If you don’t deal with those dead skin cells that have accumulated on your face, your skin is guaranteed to look duller and less radiant. Use a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week to give you smoother, more radiant skin. Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Cleanser cleanses and scrubs at the same time, so it does double duty, removing the day’s make-up and build-up of oil and dirt while clearing the way for a brighter complexion.
Find an energising moisturiser
If you apply a moisturiser every day then you’re taking a step towards getting your skin back to normal (see point above about hydration = glow); but do yourself a favour and find a moisturiser that adds some much-needed oomph. L’Oréal Paris’ Revitalift Red Cream contains red ginseng, which helps to improve circulation, which will help to give your skin a more radiant appearance. It also contains orange-red pigments (hence the name) which will instantly improve your complexion.
Vitamin C is key
When it comes to picking out ingredients to enhance your skin’s brightness and even out your skin tone, vitamin C is the most needed ingredient in your arsenal. You can find vitamin C in products such as cleansers, moisturisers, masks (see point one) but one of our favourite ways to get a healthy dose of the good stuff is in a serum or treatment product. Nip+Fab Vitamin C Repair Concentrate 3% can be added to your routine just once or twice a week to help illuminate and brighten.
